Please describe your question or comment briefly:
I urge the Idaho Public Utilities Commission to accept the use of nuclear power as
requested in the Idaho Power Co. 20-year growth plan, and please, reject the use of coal
in said plan, by encouraging the use of nuclear energy in place of coal. I urge the
Commission to publicly endorse the use of nuclear energy, including the development of new
nuclear power plants in Idaho if needed.
The Idaho Statesman newspaper seems to favor anti-nuclear opinions. For example, on Sunday
Dec 10, 2006 in the Opinion section, the paper gave ink to Joseph Mangano, who represents
the so-called Radiation and Public Health proj ect; a well-known front for anti-nuclear
acti vists. The statistics Mr. Mangano gave to the public have long been discredited and
shown to be skewed and biased.
I urge the Commission to resist the political pressures, and propaganda from anti-nuclear
groups like the Snake River Alliance and people like Mr. Mangano. Hollywood actor, Alec
Baldwin has become the celebrity spokesperson for Mr. Mangano s cause. Please do not be
swayed by the emotional appeal of these groups.
Thank you.

Please describe your question or comment briefly:
I am writing to aks that Idaho Power remove nuclear from the draft 2006 Integrated
Resource Plan, considering the recent uncertainty and confusion around plans to sell
250MW of electricity to Idaho Power from a new reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory.
It is clear to me that the reactor at INL is speculative and I understand that there has
been no formal talks between INL and Idaho Power concerning energy from a new reactor.
Also, there has been no final National Environmental Protection Act decision, no
final reactor design chosen, and no appropriation aside from small year-to-year funding.
There is also a question as to how much power a new reactor at INL would
actually produce and uncertainty remains as to how much power a new reactor at INL
would actually generate, although Idaho Power has 250MW listed, and DOE has on
occasion referred to250MW as the total amount of electricity output.
I ask that Idaho Power remove nuclear power from their draft plan
and replace it with 250MW of clean, renewable energy and conservation plans. In light of
INL's assertion that nuclear power will not be available to meet Idaho Power s projected
needs while, at the same time, dumping a great deal of nuclear waste into our country
toxic waste stream, I hope that Idaho Power can do its part to move us forward and away
from this still questionable power source.
Thank you,
RALonning
