This is a tight economy right now and even tho there has been improvement we are no where near being able to cope with an increase of this magnitude. As a state employee I personally have only received an occational bonus and no across the board raises in 5 years. The bonus does not add to my monthly living expenses. If the state is unable to give raises how can they possibly believe an increase in our utili ties is warrented. I am completely against the raising of the Idaho Power base at 19.9 percent. THIS IS NOT THE TIME! ! ! Transaction ID: 124827.Referred by: http: / /www. puc. state. id. us/ scripts/polyform. dll/ ipuc User Address: 164.165.33. Washington Street Boise, ill 83702 I am writing regarding the recent Idaho Power s recent request for a 19 percent increase for residential customers and also the huge increase in the monthly Customer Charge and the Summer Base Rate increase. They expect to get these because they are usually granted these increases or at least most of the amounts requested. They expect this because they have a monopoly. That is what I feel your commission is suppose to be there for all of us poor helpless customers. During my working years I worked for a corporation for 21 years. The wages weren t the highest but we did have job security which is now a thing of the past which is a great concern to me to see the what our current working people are going through as well as what our young people not in the work force yet. At the time I was employed it was not for a monopoly and we had several sources of competition. If my company needed new equipment or needed to up-grade etc., the cost was borne by the shareholders. We couldn't pass them on to our customers because our competitors would take our business. Idaho Power and the other utilities are monopolies and with no competition feel entitled to anything they want. Why can t the shareholders pay for some of these increases with a little less on their dividends as the shareholders of the company I worked for did? Being a senior citizen of 77 years of age this kind of increase imposed on us and agreed to by your commission are really killing us. Think of the last few years of approximately 20% increases in power, gas and water bill increases. We were lucky to get an increase Social Security of 1 to 3 percent which was cancelled out by the increase in our Medicare premmtns. Please consider these remarks when you ponder allowing rate increases as to how many people will be hurt, not only seniors but people who have lost their jobs and can t find another job or something paying much less still trying to hold onto their homes. Check any Idaho Statesman as to how many homes are being lost to Trustee Sales. Think hmv these increases can hurt so many people including any children of the unemployed or the working poor. We all need the utilities. Thank you. Sincerely, t~~4,./ ~-~ (Mrs.) Elizabeth Nelson 3644 E. Immigrant Pass Ct. That is the proposal to raise the base rate from $2.51 a month to $10 per month. This is an increase that is way out of line. For people that have seasonal residences such as cabins that are not used all winter , this amount cannot be justified. For our little cabin, no meter reader has to venture to thedoor. One look at untrailed snow tells the person that no one has been at the cabin and again this month no electricity has been used. $10 bucks is way too much! Transaction ID: 1282108. In a time of economic hardship where many are struggling to keep food on the table--Idaho Power is asking for a huge rate increase (disguised by an interim increase until a decision is made) . I would ask the PUC to put the plight of the people before the profits of a company and deny this increase. Transaction 10: 125200.
