Comment description: Automatic Meter Readers suggests electronic meter reading with the
aid of a computer. Anything done by computer will eventually be hacked into and
manipulated by someone. This gives rise to the need of computer security which is a
bottomless pit for funding. It never ends and will eventually cost more than people meterreaders. In theory, AMR sounds great, but in practice there are no guarantees. If you
believe there are guarantees, I'll sell you Safeco Field.
But if you must, then the mechanical meter should be left attached to the house, etc,
and a window access to the electronic meter so the home owner, etc can keep an eye on themeters.
By sticking with people meter readers, you don t have to worry about electronic
securi ty, never ending costs, upgrade costs and you get a few people out there getting
some exercise which helps reduce the new crisis on obese Americans.
