Re: Meter Reads outside Rule D Parameters
Dear Ms. Jewell:
Idaho Power is presently adjusting its meter reading routes in the Twin Falls area to
maximize the effciency of its meter readers and biling processes. On March 21, 2008,
Idaho Power notified customers by postcard that this adjustment to our meter reading
routes could result in billng periods that are shorter or longer than the normal 30-day
interval, resulting in bils that are larger or smaller than normaL.
Due to an error in the reconfiguration of six meter reading routes, approximately
1,412 meters will be read on Thursday, April 17, 49 days after the meters were last
read. This period exceeds the maximum 45-day meter read interval set by Section 6 of
Idaho Power's Rule D tariff.
Idaho Power has explored options to avoid the 49-day meter readings that include
estimated and manual billngs, but concluded that such measures were untested and
have the potential to cause more harm than good.
The Company believes the bestcourse of action is to proceed with the 49-day meter
reads on the six routes in question. This will ensure customers receive accurate bils
and allow them to resume normal billng cycles of approximately 30 days next month.
Idaho Powets Customer Service Representatives wil work with customers impacted by
the abnormally long meter read intervals to set up appropriate payment arrangements if
necessary to minimize any resulting hardship.
