Riva Ridge Way City: Boise State: ID Zip: 83709 Daytime Telephone: Contact E-Mail: michealtalley(hotmail.com Name of Utility Company: Idaho Power Acknowledge: acknowledge Please describe your comment briefly: We are blessed to live in Idaho where abundant, reliable, and renewable hydro power is available at a very reasonable cost. This keeps Idaho's power rates near the cheapest in the nation. We also supplement that abundant hydro power with reliable, but more costly coal and natural gas power when needed. Now unscrupulous developers are taking advantage of federal rules that require us to buy their "renewable" and unreliable wind power regardless of need or cost. This power is much more expensive than what we normally buy, thus forcing Idaho residents to subsidize these unneeded and unwanted wind farms throughout Idaho. In addition, since wind power is more fickle than traditional generating methods, we're forced to compensate for this by buying more expensive power from the grid when the wind stops blowing, and the producers are unable to meet their commitments. If these wind power sources were reliable, they actually delivered what they commit to, and the cost was equal to or cheaper than the currently available sources of production and we actually needed the power, I would welcome them with open arms. However, as it stands now, they meet none of those requirements. Please end this fleecing of Idaho by private developers forcing us to pay above market rates for their power. We don't need any more unreliable "renewable" power, since we currently generate more than 50% of our power from truly renewable and reliable hydro. We shouldn't be forced to buy power we don't want or need, at prices that are higher than the going market rate.
