Trudeau can possibly be in anyway helpful in the takeover of a segment of our power grid by a Canadianentity. It is all well and good to foster foreign businesses within our borders where goods, products or even real estate are concerned, but absolutely NO_T where our power source is concerned. Where is our Federal Govt on all of this -do they even have a clue???????How on earth is it that the FCC et al have "accepted"this pending deal? Regardlessof supposed local oversight by the PUD,he who holds the purse strings has ultimate control. This is especially concerning geographically since Hydro One is based in Eastern Canada. My experience has been (in the US) that the farther away the center of power, the less local needs are met!Imagine the potential neglect if an electromagnetic disruption occurred over North America,do you really think remote North Idaho would have any priority--of course not!!! As an Avista natural gas and electricitycustomer,I am OPPOSED to the merger of Avista Utilities with Hydro One Limited,a Canadian corporation. In addition to those reasons stated by others for the record,I am opposed to the merger because I was anticipating utility rate reductions due to recent cuts to corporate tax rates provided by the United States Congress and President Trump(the TrumpTax Cuts).Avista customers in Idaho and Washington would benefit from the TrumpTax Cuts, just as would customers of other American companies whose income taxes have been generously reduced. As a subsidiary of Hydro One,a Canadian firm, the benefits of the TrumpTax Cuts to Avista and its customers would be in jeopardy because Avista would be under foreign control should the merger proceed. The new governing board of Avista will be stacked in favor of the Canadian owners, most notablythe Government of Ontario. As a socialist Provincial Government,Ontario is fraughtwith financial inefficiencies and social programs that would be subsidized by Avista customers in the United States.More fundamentally,it is plain wrong to give up local control of our most essential public services to a foreign entity. The merger of Avista with Hydro One is clearlyharmfulto Idaho, the citizens of Idaho and the customers of Avista, and must be stopped. The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has a fiduciary duty to the citizens of Idaho and should unequivocallydeny the merger of Avista and Hydro One Limited.
