TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,
WE OPPOSE THE AV1STA RATE HKE.WE ARE ON FIXED INCOME —SS ONLY AND WE CANNOT AFFORD
HIGHER ELECTRIC BILLS.THEY WASTE SO MUCH MONEY ON SENDING OUT ENERGY REPORTS THAT
NOBODY READS.THE REPORTS SHOW WHAT MY NEIGHBORS SPEND ON ELECTRICITY AND WHAT WE
SPEND IN COMPARISON.THE NEIGHBORS HAVE NEWER AND LARGER HOMES THAT OURS,SO WHO
CARES WHAT THEY SPEND AND I KNOW THE DON’T CARE WHAT I SPEND.TOTALLY WASTEFUL!!!
LEWISTON IS A COMMUNITY OF RETIRED PEOPLE AND A LOT OF THEM DO NOT HAVE EXTRA MONEY
FOR THESE INCREASES.FOOD PRICES INCREASE,FUEL COSTS GO UP,SO THEY GET CAUGHT IN A PINCH
AND HAVE TO CUT BACK ON FOOD,MEDICINE,ETC.
PLEASE CONSIDER THESE FACTS IN THIS PROPOSAL.

Dear Commissioners,
I strongly urge you to reject the appeal by Avista Utilities for another rate
increase.Many of us living in Coeur d’Alene cannot afford another raise.
I am 84 and I own my own home that is 38 years old.When we had it built we
had electric heat installed.We did not want gas and I still don’t want gas.At my
age it would be foolish for me to pay out a great deal of money for a furnace or
for new windows.My house is around 1000 square feet and I am the only
occupant.I am careful about turning out lights,washing and drying clothes,etc.
This summer I was especially careful and still my bill was huge.Avista has a
monopoly in most of the city.I would think they would have set aside money in
their budget for unforeseen storms,etc.
While I realize the stock holders deserve a good return we customers are going to
be suffering this winter if this raise goes thru.Many of us on pensions did not
receive raises.Mine went up a total of $3.10.Raises in Social Security benefits
went to Medicare.
I also disapprove of a foreign country owning Avista.
