We understand the following: The warming climate, whether human-caused or natural, threatens eventual extinction of humans,to say nothing of much of the rest of complex life on our planet. Overwhelming scientific evidence indicates carbon dioxide emissions are big contributors to the warming climate, and that use of fossil fuels is a major source of carbon dioxide emissions. Overwhelming scientific consensus says that lowering human-produced carbon-dioxide emissions would help to slow the warming of the planet's atmosphere. One of the best ways to reduce human-produced carbon-dioxide emissions is to invest in alternatives such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric.(We are opposed to nuclear alternatives at this time due to the dangerous side-effects,of which we all are aware). We want our planet and present life on it to continue into the future. In addition,coal-fired electricity across the country is becoming a financial liability. Therefore: U We are willing to pay higher fees for the energy we use only if those fees do not contribute to prolonging the life of Avista's coal-fired power plant in Montana (Colstrip). The Colstrip plant is one of the largest greenhouse gas emitters in the country. We believe that investing more money in Colstrip is contributingto a certain-death project (in more ways than one!). U Avista should be prudentlyinvesting ratepayer money in smarter clean-energy projects. These alternatives are smarter because they are job-creating and renewable, and will help to slow climate change. U In addition, any rate increase notices, now and in the future, should fullydetail what the increase is being spent on.If any of the increase goes toward propping up the Colstrip operation, the notice should fully explain why Avista considers this necessary. Thank you. 1
