HomeMy WebLinkAbout20220201_rn1.pdfDECISION MEMORANDUM 1 DECISION MEMORANDUM TO: COMMISSIONER ANDERSON COMMISSIONER CHATBURN COMMISSIONER HAMMOND COMMISSION SECRETARY COMMISSION STAFF LEGAL FROM: RILEY NEWTON DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL DATE: JANUARY 27, 2022 SUBJECT: IN THE MATTER OF THE APPLICATION OF IDAHO POWER COMPANY FOR AUTHORITY TO ESTABLISH A NEW SCHEDULE TO SERVE SPECULATIVE HIGH-DENSITY LOAD CUSTOMERS; CASE NO. IPC-E-21-37. On November 4, 2021, Idaho Power Company (“Company”) applied to the Commission for authority to establish a new schedule to serve speculative high-density customers, specifically, large-scale cryptocurrency mining operators. The Company reported that it had recently received prospective customer interest that, if connected to its grid, would exceed the Company’s ability to serve total system load during the summer peak season. The Company requested that its Application be processed by modified procedure. On December 1, 2021, the Commission issued Notice of the Company’s Application and Notice of an Intervention Deadline. See Order No. 35276. The Commission granted intervention into this case to the Industrial Customers of Idaho Power, and 2140 Labs LLC. See Order No. 35276. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Staff has conferred with all parties who have agreed that the Company’s Petition can be processed by Modified Procedure. The parties also agreed on dates for comment and reply comment deadlines. The parties agreed that interested persons and parties may file comments on the Company’s Petition on or before April 12, 2022. The parties also agreed that the Company may file any reply comments, if any, on or before April 26, 2022. DECISION MEMORANDUM 2 COMMISSION DECISION Does the Commission wish to issue a Notice of Modified Procedure and set an April 12, 2022, comment deadline for interested persons and parties to file written comments on the Company’s Petition? Does the Commission also wish to set an April 26, 2022, reply comment deadline for the Company?
