SUBJECT: AVISTA CORPORATION’S APPLICATION FOR AN ACCOUNTING
ORDER FOR ITS WILDFIRE RESILIENCY PLAN;
CASE NO. AVU-E-20-05
On May 29, 2020, Avista Corporation (“Company”) filed an Application requesting
that the Commission issue an order authorizing the accounting and ratemaking treatment related
to the incremental costs the Company will incur due to its Wildfire Resiliency Plan. Application
at 1.
THE APPLICATION
The Company seeks Commission approval to defer, for later ratemaking treatment, the
return on and incremental capital and expenses related to the Company’s Wildfire Resiliency Plan
until the annual costs and capital investment are included in base rates. Id. The Company advises
it will, in a future proceeding, request the Commission review the prudency of these matters and
set a recovery method for them. Id. at 1-2.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the Commission issue a Notice of Application and Notice of
Modified Procedure. Staff recommends the Notice of Application and Notice of Modified
Procedure set an August 26, 2020, comment deadline for itself and any other interested parties,
and a September 2, 2020, reply comment deadline for the Company.

Does the Commission wish to issue a Notice of Application and Notice of Modified
Procedure that establishes an August 26, 2020, comment deadline for Staff and any other interested
parties followed by a September 2, 2020, reply comment deadline for the Company?
