SUBJECT: IN THE MATTER OF THE APPOINTMENT OF DIANE M. HANIAN TO
THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF THE IDAHO PUBLIC
UTILITIES COMMISSION, CASE NO. P-500-92

Idaho Code § 61-205 states that “[t]he commission shall appoint a secretary, who
shall hold office during its pleasure.” The statute goes on to outline the duties of the
Commission Secretary, including recordkeeping, document processing, and “other duties as the
commission may prescribe.” Id.
On December 31, 2016, Jean D. Jewell, after years of commendable service,
concluded her term as Secretary of the Commission. Given that vacancy, and pursuant to its
authority under § 61-205, the Commission now has before it the appointment of Diane M.
Hanian to the position of Commission Secretary.
