UNITED WATER IDAHO ING.'S FIRST RESPONSE TO EIGHTH PRODUCTION REQUEST OF THE
coMiilssroN STAFF - 2
UNITED WATER IDAHO INC.
CASE UWI.W.I5-01
EIGHTH PRODUCTION REQUEST OF THE COMMISSION STAFF
Preparer/Sponsoring Witness: Marshall Thompson
REQUEST NO. 151: On page 16 and 17 of Company Witness Cary's direct testimony,
she discusses a $35,000 donation made by UWI to the Boise Watershed Environmental
Education Center for an interpretive trail to be constructed near the West Boise
Wastewater Treatment Plant. Will UWI's donation be used for a specific purpose?
RESPONSE NO. 151: The Company's $35,000 donation to the Boise Watershed
Environmental Education Center will specifically fund the interpretive trail as part of an
educational series of exhibits to teach about water resources, and how to conserve and
protect them. There will be science-oriented interactive sites, wildlife sculptures,
messages about a healthy watershed, but the overall purpose will be to educate &
promote sustainability. The interpretive path will enhance messages from both the
interior and exterior exhibits.

CASE UWI.W-15-01
EIGHTH PRODUCTION REQUEST OF THE COMMISSION STAFF
Preparer/Sponsoring Witness: Marshall Thompson
REQUEST NO. 152: Please explain in greater detail the plans and timelines for
construction of the trail, what its purpose is, and how it relates to wise water use and
UWI's water conservation program.
RESPONSE NO. 152: Ground breaking for the Boise Watershed Environmental
Education Center River Campus project was on August 27th,2015. The design team for
the River Campus is continuing work on the elements of the entire campus design,
including the interpretive walk. The expectation is that the River Campus lnterpretive
Trail will be completed by August 2016.
The purpose of the River Campus and interpretive trail is to educate and promote
sustainability as part of an educational series of exhibits to teach about water resources,
how to conserve and protect them. There will be science-oriented interactive sites,
wildlife sculptures, messages about a healthy watershed and sustainability. Site plans
call for innovative water-conserving irrigation systems to be designed and installed
along the pathway and throughout the River Campus.
There will be low-water use landscaping across all of the River Campus, examples of
xeric and native plant gardens, and these will also be along the interpretive path, with
appropriate signage. There will be signage and interpretive elements along the path
that show wise water use, conservation and the reason why that it is important to our
community and region.
