RE:DIRECT COMMUNICATIONS LOCAL TARIFF ADVICE REQUESTING
COMMISSION APPROVAL TO INTRODUCE TEMPORARY
SUSPENSION SERVICE. TARIFF ADVICE NUMBER 07-01.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
On April 6, 2007, Direct Communications filed it Tariff Advice Letter 07-01 seeking
Commission approval to introduce its new Temporary Suspension Service. This new service
will allow a residential customer who wishes to temporarily suspend its service to pay half the
monthly rate and preserve their phone number and local service while away. There will also be a
line connection charge to suspend and restore the service. The Company believes that a
temporary suspension service may keep customers from leaving the system entirely.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION AND COMMISSION DECISION
Many of the rural companies have implemented this service and have had a good
retention rate of customers who travel out of the service area in the winter season. In its review
Staff finds that the Company will cover its costs for this service and recommends approval of
this filing. Does the Commission agree?
