The Staff of the Idaho Public Utilities Commission, by and through its attorney of record, Susan Hamlin, Deputy Attorney General, hereby responds to U S WEST Communications, Inc.’s Third Request for Production to the Idaho Public Utilities Commission Staff dated January 13, 1997. Request No. 154: Attached is Staff Exhibit 120 which is illegible when reproduced in black and white.  Please provide by year the total number of investigations for each category (e.g., held orders, billing, etc.) which is listed at the bottom of the chart. Response No. 154: Although previously provided to all parties in this case, Staff provided Mary S. Hobson, counsel for U S WEST Communications, Inc., another colored copy of Exhibit No. 120 on January 14, 1997. This should make the total number of investigations legible to read.  Table 1 (attached) includes the original data used to prepare Schedule 3 of Staff Exhibit 120. In addition, Staff has determined that the number of Caller ID investigated complaints for the year 1991should be reduced because a significant number of these complaints were more properly coded as comments. This reduces the total number of investigated complaints for 1991 to 562 (see Table 3 attached).   Consequently,  Staff Exhibit 120, Schedule 3, and its accompanying text will be revised.  Request No. 155:   Please update the 1996 data provided on Staff Exhibit 120 to year end, if available. Response No. 155: Data for the months of October, November and December of 1996 are not yet available because some investigations remain open.  Staff reviews each report for accuracy in coding and completeness prior to releasing information about such reports.  This review is currently underway and this data should be available by February 3, 1997.   Request No. 156:   Attached is an Exhibit Staff prepared in a prior docket. A.  Please make any corrections you find necessary to any data displayed thereon. B.  Please update 1995 data to year end and provide all available data for      1996. C.  For each year in each category, please provide the number of    investigations Staff conducted. Response No. 156: Table 2 is an update of the exhibit requested.  Data for all of 1995 has been provided, as well as January through September of 1996.  Table 3 includes the data for the number of investigations conducted by Staff in each category.  A further update to this table, which would include data for the remainder of 1996, should be available by February 3, 1997. DATED at Boise, Idaho, this               day of January 1997. ______________________________________ Susan Hamlin Deputy Attorney General gdk:sh:i\wpfiles\umisc\response\prdreq\usws965.rs5
