RE:GTE ELIMINATION OF “TIME OF DAY” SERVICE
On November 14, 1997, the Consumer Assistance Section received a complaint from a GTE customer.  The customer complained that she had been advised that GTE was going to begin charging for “time of day” service.  Currently, GTE customers can dial [phone] to receive a time announcement.  She claimed that the Company intends to no longer provide this service free of charge but would make it available via a 900 number (i.e., a toll charge).  According to the Company, it intends to discontinue time of day service as of December 1, 1997.
