HomeMy WebLinkAboutKEMPTHOR.docxSeptember 5, 1996 Honorable Dirk Kempthorne United States Senator c/o 304 North 8th Street, Rm 338 Boise, ID 83702 Dear Senator Kempthorne: The Commission received your constituent inquiry regarding the abandonment of the Union Pacific Railroad’s Maddens branch.  This branch is approximately 17.5 miles in length running between the communities of Emmett to Middleton.  Your constituent opposed “rails to trails” designation of this branch.   The Commission’s involvement with this branch was to review the economic impact of abandonment.  The Commission did not participate in any request to “railbank” this branch.  Consequently, you may wish to direct further inquiries to either the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation or the Surface Transportation Board in Washington, D.C.
