It's Case No. EIR-R-18-01 . My name is Paul Kj ellander. I ' l-l- be the Chair of today's proceedings. To my left is Commissioner Kris Raper and we also have with us today vi-e telephone Commi-ssioner Eric Anderson. Eric, if you could state your name just so that we know you're there officially for the record. COMMISSIONER ANDERSON: Eric Anderson and good morning. COMMISSIONER KJELLANDER: Good morning and thanks for joining us today. First off, although the authority to grant or deny abandonment rests with the Surface Transportation Board and is governed by federal- 1aw, the ldaho Public Utilities Commission has an obligation under state law to hold a public hearing regarding the abandonment, and to represent the State in Surface Transportation Board abandonment proceedings if the Commission deems it necessary. 1 25 COLLOQUY BOISE, IDAHO, THURSDAY, JUNE 28, 2078, 10:00 A. Now, the purpose of the hearing is for the Commission to determine whether the abandonment would: (1) adversely affect the area being served; (2) impair the access of Idaho shippers to vital goods and markets; and (3) whether the raj-l l-ine has a potential for profitability. If the Commission finds that the abandonment would be adverse to the public interest, then 1t may represent Board abandonment reference to Idaho the State in the Surface proceedings, and, again, Code Section 62-424 (2) , Transportation that's in so with that, the l-ine.1et's see if we have any of the parties on Let's first start with Commission Staff.
