HomeMy WebLinkAbout20170905Attachment 91B.pdf_________________________________________________________________________________________ TITLE: COMMUNITY EDUCATION SPECIALIST EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: NON-EXEMPT REPORT TO: Community Engagement Director ISSUE DATE: 06/16 GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Community Engagement Director, the Community Education Specialist is responsible for development, promotion and implementation of community outreach and education services in the areas of energy conservation and other asset building financial venues to low-income residents in accordance with CAP’s program goals. Additional responsibilities are administrative in nature and may include report compilation, data analysis, and assessment evaluation. Requires regional travel. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop and implement energy conservation materials and present to individuals and groups in a wide variety of formats and locations, including client’s homes and at outreach events; • Provide direct services to program participants including assessment and intake for CAP services; • Work with co-workers and volunteers to promote a positive, respectful, and productive working environment while protecting client confidentiality and dignity; • Schedule and staff conservation education classes including Do-It-Yourself weatherization and Project Share energy conservation, present classes as needed; • Network and coordinate community education outreach efforts with all appropriate local service agencies and the professional business community; • Perform other work projects as assigned. SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: • Must have the ability to work effectively as a team member and be able to give and receive information in a positive manner. • Must be able to represent Community Action Partnership in a positive manner. JOB SCOPE: • The position of the Community Education Specialist is to be an advocate for low-income people in the areas of energy conservation and other asset building financial areas by providing education and community outreach. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: • None INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: • The person functioning in this position must play a supportive, guiding role in ensuring positive and productive relationships between CAP, community members, and businesses. • This person serves as an enthusiastic advocate for CAP. • Employers are expected to keep their supervisor informed of issues, questions, or concerns that may arise or come to their attention about CAP. Such issues, etc. may come to employees from clients and/or community members as well as co-workers during the course of performing their duties. Staff_PR_091 Attachment B Page 1 of 3 • It is the expectation of all CAP employees to treat clients, other staff, and the general public in a professional, respectful manner. • Capable of establishing a good rapport with low-income people. SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS: • Demonstrated ability to work independently, using initiative and judgment to resolve problems, manage multiple projects, and ensure workflow is appropriately addressed in a timely manner; • Ability to establish good working relationships within the agency as well as with other agencies; • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and personal interaction skills with emphasis on working with a diverse population in a team environment; • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with local, state, and federal private and public organizations, community representatives, and volunteers; • Ability to maintain confidential records and information pertaining to program participants; • Familiarity with computers and basic software; • Ability to demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and professionalism in the work place; • Ability to speak publicly and make presentations to groups of various sizes; • Ability to follow detailed procedures and work within established policies and guidelines; • Sensitivity to, and understanding of, issues facing low-income people and obstacles to reaching improved financial conditions; • Ability to empathize and advocate for low-income and vulnerable people; • Experience in curriculum development and implementation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education • BA or AA in social services, education, or related field preferred, equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Experience • Education, outreach and/or resource conservation work preferred; • Any combination of experience or training working with the public, particularly in the areas of weatherization, construction, and/or financial asset building • Familiarity with community resources and systems in region highly desirable. Other • Must possess a valid driver’s license, have an acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation for business use. • Must be able to pass a background check. Additional Requirements Language Requirement • Ability to read and develop written materials and communicate at all ability levels. • Ability to deliver speeches or public talks. Reasoning • Ability to make decisions using independent judgment and involving many variables. Ability to analyze future impact of decisions, and the effects of past decisions.
