IPUC I "t Set Data Request (l -9)
IPUC Data Request I
Which classes of service are expected to benefit from the new option? Will the
cost ofthe option be recovered only from those who receive it, or will costs be
shared by a larger group of customers or class of customers? How will the cost of
this option be allocated to customers in future cost allocation studies? Please
provide justification, as applicable.
Response to IPUC Data Request I
The Company does not have an expectation that any customer class will benefit
more liom the inclusion of the 240148O single phase voltage category. The cost
ofproviding service at the new single phase 2401480 volt category is
approximately the same as the existing single phase 1201240 volt for the same
kVA rating. Customers requesting the 2401480 volt service will not see a cost
difference under the Company's line extension policy. Currently the Company
does not anticipate making changes to future cost allocation studies as the result
of the proposed change.

Is the Company planning to propose a separate charge to customers requesting a
single-phase, 240/480 volts, 3-wire, grounded secondary service? Please explain.
Response to IPUC Data Request 2
The charge will be the estimated cost ofthejob, less the applicant's line extension
allowance, which is the same for single-phase, 12O/240 volt, 3 wire, grounded
secondary service, or any other general service.

Would the change also be implemented through the line extension policy? If so,
please describe the specific changes that will need to occur in the Company's line
extension policy and tariff.

No change is needed to the line extension tariff because it currently encompasses
this service. The allowance is the same multiple of revenue allowance as
currently exists.

IPUC Data Request 6
Please provide the difference in cost ofa single-phase, 2401480 volts, 3-wire,
grounded transformer compared to a single-phase, 1201240 volts, 3-wire,
grounded transformer on a per MVA basis,
Response to IPUC Data Request 6
Based on the example of a 50 kVA transformer shown in data response IPUC 5,
the cost ofa 2401480 transformer is $ 1417, and the cost of a 120/240 volt
transformer is $1256, all other costs are the same.
This should not be extrapolated to MVA for a couple ofreasons. One, we do not
serve 1000 kW loads single-phase. Two, the Company prices material based on a
moving average price, thus this price difference will vary based on the point in
time ofthe job design and the cost of inventory at that point in time. Because,
other than the secondary windings, the material, enclosure size, configuration,
etc., is the same in the transformers for both voltages, the costs will remain close
regardless of the kVA rating.

Response to IPUC Data Request 9
While there have not been many requests for this application in the past, there has
been some interest. There are about l0 customers that have heard about the
possibility of this option and are awaiting the possible tariffchange. The
Company does not expect to see many ofthese requests, possibly l0 per year in
the Idaho service territory.
