Comment: "This is all typical and perfectly normal among energy companies, but just last
year, the PUC approved Idaho Power's request to reduce what it pays homeowner solar
generation returned to the grid, setting the price at a little over$0.14 per kWh during peak
summer hours, $0.0176 per kWh during nonpeak summer hours, and $0.0095 per kWh the
rest of the year, practically nothing compared to what subscribers pay Idaho Power to keep
the lights on.
Idaho Power subscribers are a captive audience, and not in a position to wheel and deal for
better compensation on the excess solar power each produces. If Idaho Power is
interested in buying solar power, the homeowners in its service area offer a ready supply."
