Dear Idaho Public Utilities Commission,
Many proponents of these gas plants have touted the 'clean energy' ideology which simply
is not true. Methane (the predominant component of natural gas) is invisible when it leaks,
and, importantly, is roughly 80 times more of a potent greenhouse gas heat-trapper than
CO2.There are multiple publications and non-profit organizations dedicated solely to the
tracking of natural gas leakage and environmental impacts in order to hold those in charge
of natural gas plants accountable, including oil and gas watch, climate integrity.There have
been reports from the likes of data for progress which have aggregated this information as
well as public outcry about these very things. Please take the time, not only to reject this
issue, but to look at the reports that may change your outlook on future power generation
demands.
Please reject Idaho Power's request to construct two new natural gas plants in southern
Idaho.These gas plants are expensive and risky,with fluctuating and increasing fuel costs
into the future, and are simply not in the public interest. Battery storage is more affordable,
has no fuel costs, is quick to install, and does not pollute our air. Please put the onus on Big
Tech to build their own huge and expensive energy facilities, and tell Idaho Power to focus
on building affordable, clean, and stable energy projects that don't pollute our air and raise
our bills.
