NEWS RELEASE: Commission Accepting Written Comments on Electric Utility's Power Plant
Projects
BOISE (June 1, 2026)—The Idaho Public Utilities Commission is accepting written comments
on an application submitted by Idaho Power seeking certificates of public convenience and
necessity for two proposed natural gas-fueled power plants.
Idaho Power is proposing to build the South Hills Power Plant in Twin Falls County and the
Peregrine Power Plant in Elmore County.
The South Hills plant is designed to provide 222 megawatts of electricity. The utility plans to
begin commercial operation of the plant on June 1, 2029. The Peregrine plant is planned to be
built in Elmore County and is designed to provide 430 megawatts of electricity. Commercial
operation of the plant is scheduled to begin on June 1, 2030. The utility said the plants will help
offset a growing demand for energy.
If granted by the Commission, the certificates of public convenience and necessity will allow
Idaho Power to move forward with the construction of the power plants.
The Commission is accepting written comments on Idaho Power's application until Friday, July
31, 2026. Comments are required to be filed through the Commission's website or by e-mail
