Idaho power has filed for a 17.35% increase in power, and an additional$10 for the service charge. This will raise the service charge to$25 a month! That is $300/year PER METER. Outrageous. Allow me to explain how this affects us personally. We work to keep our power bill under $200 in the winter and under$100 in the summer. A 17.35% increase will increase our summer bill by$17.35, and our winter bill by$34.70 minimum. Let's put that in perspective: May: Our power bill for the house: $116.82 for both sides of our small farm. Raw electric charge: House: $53.30 For the farm side: $22.95, the total charge is $86.25. On our farm side, ($22.95)the bill is $41.26. This means, with all of the additional charges, we are paying nearly double for this power. The $15.00 service fee is 65.2% of our power charge! If the power company is allowed to raise the service fee to $25, it will exceed our raw power charge. On the house side, ($53.30)the $15.00 service charge is 38.2% of our bill. If is raised to $25, it will be approximately 50% of our raw power charge. Between the two meters we are REQUIRED to have, our service fee will go up to $600 per year! That's just about 5 months of summer power for us. This example is similar to our month to month bills. In addition to all of the other fees that are added (padded)to the bill, we don't think that this increase is warranted. Here is a solution to the power company's thirst for money: 1 1.) Stop sending out literature that is just bunk. I don't need to hear about what you are doing"for the community" in printed form. Stop mailing us things that are anything other than the bill. We don't need for you to send us things to make us feel warm and fuzzy. 2.)Tell the CEO that she needs to take a pay cut. Lisa Grow makes $6.7 million dollars between paid salary(14.7% of this is money). I am sure that the Vice President, and others on the top tier of this company should learn to do more with less. Isn't that what they're asking us to do? 3.)Tell Facebook and other big industry, that have gotten sweetheart deals to move to the state of Idaho, that THEY need to pay for the infrastructure upgrades out of THEIR profits. How did it ever seem like a great idea to pass these costs to your customers. When does the greed stop?We were forced to pay for the windmill debacle. Solar was partially funded but completely untenable. Who has approximately$50K to put it on their house? We don't think any utility company should be allowed to charge more than 15%for the raw cost of power. We think in lieu of an increase, there should be a concise audit to help them find the money they need. We are asking the Public Service Commission to deny this greed driven request. With the cost of everything else so high, it's starting to come down to paying for food or utilities or medication for many people. This includes our seniors and veterans, single moms and dads, college students, and even dual income households. We as a state can't afford to continue raising prices while keeping minimum wage at$7.25/hour. Buhl, ID just voted to raise water costs for residents, and now another rise on power? It's inhumane that we 2 should make someone choose whether they're going to eat, have electricity, or get their medications. "It's only a little over 17%."That's $17 for every$100. That's the cost of my antidepressants for a month. A third of a tank of gas in my car. A pack of chicken breasts and a bag of rice. Do you really want to be the reason that a veteran, a child, someone disabled or any Idahoan citizen goes without?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following comment was submitted via PUCWeb: Name: Monica Bott Submission Time:Aug 11 2025 4:49PM Email: bottlegal808@aol.com Telephone: 208-260-2446 Address: 705 8th Ave N Buhl, ID 83316 Name of Utility Company: Idaho Power Case ID: IPC-E-25-16 Comment: "I vote against a price increase for power and meter costs. This will place a hardship on my family. Please do not change the current rates. Thankyou." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3
