Comment: "I want to express my frustration with this proposed rate increase. Eleven -13%
is, really, a huge amount of moneyfor the average Idahoan. Yet, the "average" Idahoan is
not being considered, as individuals moving in to the state after making enormous profits
on the sale of homes, business, etc (in their home state) are driving real estate prices to
unaffordable levels for Idaho's median income earner.
I am a huge supporter of research for future alternative and sustainable energy resources,
and I do not mind paying extra for that; I realize how lucky and privileged we are, at a very
relatively low cost. What I do not like is that with this extreme proposed jump in the charge
to the customer, there was seemingly a lack of planning and projecting of these needs. Has
there ever been any discussion in charging out-of-state individuals moving here more in
order to cover the costs of over-taxing our resources, and the costs of finding better more
efficient ways to provide the quality of life they (and we all) seek at affordable levels?
I realize these last questions are far more complex than this forum and are part of a large
system, but I'd like to know where Idaho Power stands here. Why can't someone like me, a
native Idahoan who attended state universities to become an educator with a starting
yearly salary of$31,000 in 2006 (now approximately$58 K) afford to buy a home? (luckily, I
did buy a home manyyears ago, but I am creating a common profile of someone, such as
my sister who is a social worker for the state of Idaho and who cannot afford to buy). And
why should I suddenly have to pay$25-35 more per month for electricity because an influx
of people have come to my state to buy enormous houses and plots of land that require
huge amounts of energy? How is this fair and is Idaho Power considering any of this in the
discussions?
Thankyou:'
