My household made the decision to invest in solar panels because we believe in the power of clean energy. We wanted to harness Idaho's abundant sunshine, lower our long-term energy costs, and do our part to reduce reliance on energy sources that are less environmentally friendly. Idaho Power's proposal not only threatens the value of that investment, it also sends the wrong message to families and individuals trying to make responsible energy choices. Slashing the compensation rate for excess solar energy—from 6.18 cents to an average of just 2.46 cents per kilowatt-hour—makes solar far less accessible and viable. It undermines the economic case for solar and creates uncertainty for anyone considering making the switch. The proposed seasonal rates, some of which fall below 1 cent/kWh, feel punitive rather than fair. The annual recalculation of these rates adds even more unpredictability, which is not helpful for Idahoans trying to make thoughtful, forward-looking energy decisions. I urge the Commission to reject Idaho Power's proposal and instead support policies that encourage energy independence, reward responsible energy production, and help Idaho move toward a cleaner, more sustainable future. We bought solar capabilities to help reduce carbon foot print, help on over consumption of the power grid due to an influx of new residents in the valley, and to help cut cost to families who have reached in our own pockets to purchase solar power technology. If your egregious plan passes, I hope that Legal.action is taken against you. Again, shame on you for treating customers the way our government treats it's people...as a dollar sign and non-humans.
