ID 83770-0074 Edward Lodge, President John R.Hammond, Jr.,Commissioner Dayn Hardie,Commissioner Case No. ALB-T-25-01 Order No. 36531 Contact: Adam Rush Office: (208) 334-0339 E-mail: adam.rush@puc.idaho.gov NEWS RELEASE: Commission issues order approving telecom utility's application regarding broadband equipment. BOISE (April 9, 2025)—The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has issued an order approving an application submitted by Albion Telephone Company asking that equipment it installed in 2024 be designated as qualified broadband equipment. The designation will allow the utility to receive an income tax credit. The utility said it invested$2,006,608.58 in qualifying broadband equipment in 2024, and that it offers broadband services to customers at transmission rates that range from 25 megabits per second to 10 gigabits per second for data flowing from Albion to customers and for data flowing from customers to the utility. Albion Telephone also said the addition of 57 new internet customers in 2024 brought the total number of customers to 3,917, and that 99 percent of the customers have access to the utility's broadband network. Albion Telephone applied for the designation on Jan. 22, 2025. The commission issued its order granting the designation on April 8, 2025. Idaho code allows a taxpayer to receive an income tax credit for having installed qualified broadband equipment during a calendar year. Before the taxpayer is eligible for the credit, it must apply to the commission for an order confirming the installed equipment is qualified broadband equipment as defined in Idaho code. The statute defines the equipment as being capable of transmitting signals at a rate of at least 200,000 bits per second to a subscriber and at least 125,000 bits per second from a subscriber and is primarily used to provide services in Idaho to public subscribers.
