NEWS RELEASE: Commission is accepting written comments on telecom utility's application
to be designated as eligible telecommunications carrier.
BOISE (March 20, 2025)—The Idaho Public Utilities Commission is accepting written
comments until April 10, 2025, on an application from a telecommunications utility to be
designated as an eligible telecommunications carrier.
If the commission grants the designation, Ziply Fiber will be allowed to provide Lifeline
services. These are discounts on phone and Internet service for qualifying low-income
consumers and are intended to ensure they can connect to jobs, family and emergency services.
The eligible telecommunications carrier status would also allow the utility to receive financial
subsidies from the federal Universal Service Fund program to provide Lifeline services. It also
would be able to receive financial reimbursements from the Idaho Telephone Service Assistance
Program, which provides discounted telephone services to low-income Idahoans.
Comments are required to be filed through the commission website or by e-mail unless computer
access is not available. To comment electronically, please visit puc.idaho.gov and click on the
"Case Comment Form" link on the upper left side of the page. Please use case number ZFP-T-
24-02 when filling out the form. To comment using e-mail,please send comments to the e-mail
