Comment: "Veolia wants to bill us all to recover their investment in "upgrades" to the drinkable water
supply system for the area. Are these really upgrades? Do they benefit those of us who had been
established as long-time residents before the Great California Exodus of 2020? 1 doubt it. Let's have the
owners of the new homes and apartments pay the increase and leave pre-2020 home owners alone, as
we didn't need improvements until the new homes were built. I'd also like to see mechanisms put in
place to shift some of the costs to the builders themselves. We've watched our costs of living soar over
the past few years, and this is just one more way we're getting crapped on by the influx and the rich men
profiting from it."

Comment: "Is it possible to reduce this from a 20% increase to something less evasive? It is a tough time
for many of us, and having a whole 20% increase in rates is substantive."

Regarding Case Docket Number: VEO-W-24-01 Veolia Water Rate Increase Application
Dear Commissioners of the Idaho Public Utilities Commission,
On behalf of the Independent School District of Boise City, I am writing to express our
concerns regarding Veolia Water's recent application for a rate increase. As a public
institution responsible for the education and well-being of thousands of students, we are
deeply concerned about the potential financial burden this proposed increase may impose on
our schools, staff, and the broader community we serve.
Our district operates on a carefully managed budget funded through taxpayer dollars and
state and federal funding. Any significant increase in utility costs directly impacts our ability
to allocate resources effectively to critical areas such as classroom instruction, student
support services, and facility maintenance. Given the proposed rate adjustment, we anticipate
a substantial increase in operational expenses for our schools, which could necessitate
difficult decisions regarding funding reallocations.
Furthermore, we are concerned about the broader implications of this rate increase on the
families within our district. Many of our students come from households that already face
financial challenges. A rise in water utility costs could exacerbate these difficulties, creating
additional stress for families and potentially affecting students' ability to focus on their
education.
We respectfully request that the Idaho Public Utilities Commission carefully evaluate
Veolia's application to determine whether the proposed increase is justified and equitable.
We urge you to consider the economic impact on public schools and low-income families in
your deliberations. If an increase is deemed necessary, we advocate for a more gradual
implementation to mitigate its financial impact.
