Re:Closing of AT&TlBellSouth Merger
Dear Mr. Law:
On behalf of AT&T Inc. (AT&T), I am pleased to inform you that the merger of
AT&T Inc. (AT&T) and BellSouth Corporation (BellSouth) closed on December 29
2006, at which time BellSouth became a wholly-owned, first-tier subsidiary of AT&T. In
addition, Cingular Wireless LLC (Cingular), which previously was owned jointly by
AT&T and BellSouth, is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of AT&T. At AT&T, we
strongly believe that the new, combined company will bring more competition, more
innovation, and more benefits for businesses and consumers.
At the time the AT&T/BellSouth merger was announced, AT&T indicated its
intent to move to a single brand, AT&T, after the merger closed. The transitioning of the
many subsidiary companies that currently use the BellSouth and Cingular brand names to
the AT&T brand name is expected to occur over the next few months.
Please be assured that the new, combined company will comply with all
applicable federal and state legal requirements, including any filing or other requirements
of this commission, before implementing any changes to the names of subsidiariesoperating within your jurisdiction.
We look forward to working with the Commission on this matter. Please do not
hesitate to contact me if you have questions at (775) 333-4321 or bye-mail at
dan.foley(g?attcom.
Sincerely,
Dan Foley
