IPUC inspector(s) observed Crown Utilities, a contractor for IGC install 2" main line(s).
Address: Mason Creek Landing and Mason Creek Grove Subdivisions, Caldwell, ID
Observations Included: Correct trench depth, safety equipment, verification of OQ records, verification
of equipment calibrations, valid dig ticket, PE butt fusions, tracer wire, squeeze off, bedding with sand.
Quizzed employees on applicable AOCs of butt fusion,purging, sleeving of plastic carrier pipe, squeeze
off procedures. Observed a fuser cut out a fuse that did not meet acceptable criteria for high-low and
had an indentation on the rollback on the bottom side of the fuse.
Discrepancies:
• Observed employee fuse within 12" of a squeeze off location. IPUC inspector advised the
employee of the correct procedure per OPS 309.
• Fuser was unaware of the proper fusing temperature for butt fusions when asked. Fuser stated
between 450 and 500. IPUC inspector advised the employee of the correct procedure
per OPS 307.
• Employee did not conduct a cleaning purge prior to fusing. IPUC inspector advised the
employee of the correct procedure per OPS 603.
Employee made the decision to correct all observed discrepancies to comply with applicable IGC
procedures.
