On February 29, 2024 Stoneridge Utilities came out with a water rate increase request of 261%
for a meter size of.75. At the time of the application a 1.00 meter size rate increase of 543%
was asked for. We have the .75 meter meaning our basic monthly water charge would have
gone from $24 to $87. Yes, we have inflation and the cost of doing business should reflect that
when seeking rate increases. Price gouging the customer base is uncalled for.
Mr. Karupiah who owns the water company CDS Stone Ridge Utilities, LLC, dba Stoneridge
Water also owns the golf course, the grill and various lots throughout Stoneridge. Do these
other entities pay their water bill to Stoneridge Water on a monthly basis? Or is there some
`Quid pro quo' in place? You shouldn't ask for a rate increase if all entities you own are not
paying their way.
Having lived here since August of 2020 we find the water quality to have deteriorated. The
amount of Chlorine in the water is off putting and we now filter all our drinking water.
Finally, a reasonable rate increase is justifiable, your staff is recommending a 27% increase.
However, that may be a bit high for some, remember we are a community of many retirees
living on fixed incomes.
