Inspection Summary
A construction inspection was performed on Intermountain Gas Company crew in Parma, Idaho
Feb 3 2020: (1.0 Construction)
Observed Intermountain Gas performing a cutout and replacement of a section of 2" steel main that had been
previously damaged by an unidentified excavator. We witnessed them scrape and collect the pipe wrap/coating
and prep the steel to weld on 2, 2"fittings to tap and plug the main.They preheated the main before welding
and verified the preheat temps using a pyrometer. After welding on the fittings,they air tested them to check
for leaks.They then tapped the main at both fittings and plugged it using bypass plugs to allow them to bypass
and isolate the damaged section of main to be cutout. We broke for lunch and arrived back on site to them
having the damaged section already cut out and new pipe being welded in. Once finished they gassed up the
new section of main, soaped the welds, removed the plugging machines and inserted the completion plugs. We
left while they were preparing the main to weld on the 2" top tap tee and transition fitting to tie in the new 2"
PE service that was previously installed by Dasco. Dave Call (IGC meter inspector)was also on site to set the
new 5#rotary meter at the new service meter location. We did not witness any coating or backfilling at
completion of the project.
