To answer your question - No, there is no mechanism to apply for a slightly oversized system. For the example you laid out, the maximum system size is the same as the peak demand. So the largest system allowed would be 152.4 kW. We are bound by the rules set in the tariff Schedule 84 tariff so there is no room for exceptions. Chris Unruh has a meter where the peak demand is 152.4kW. Based on consumption over there,he could put in 4 of our 38.88kW arrays which max out at 155.52kW nameplate; a mere 2% above peak demand. As you're aware, our systems use bifacial solar panels, so their actual output is higher than nameplate sometimes. Presently,we either have to put in 1 100kW inverter and 1 50kW inverter and curtail production all the time or put in some slightly larger inverters that will only curtail some of the time. A perfect configuration is having 3 60kW inverters which means 180kW nameplate or about 18%above peak demand. What I'm curious about is whether there is a mechanism for us to apply for a slightly oversized system with justification; something like the scenario I described above.
