Carter FALLS WATER CO.,INC.'S RESPONSE TO STAFF'S SECOND PRODUCTION REQUEST PAGE 2 OF 2 18303126.1) () NW Natural Rates & Regulatory Affairs FLS-W-24-01 In the Matter of the Application of Falls Water Co., Inc. For Approval of a Replacement Well for Its Morning View System Data Request Response Request No.: FLS-W-24-01 IPUC DR 22 According to the Attachments 1, 2, and 3 in the Company's response to Production Request No. 8, the total annual water production for the Morning View system was 135.15 Acre-feet ("AF") in 2023, which is a decrease from 146.14 AF in 2022 and 145.54 AF in 2021. Please explain why total annual water production decreased in 2023 from 2022 and 2021. Additionally, please explain if the Company expects the annual water production to trend down from 2023 water production levels. Response: In 2023, weather conditions are responsible for most of the decrease in water production. The Spring and early Summer were cooler and wetter than the prior two years. The prior years were drought years and usage was higher due to less rainfall during the irrigation season. There was also a customer leak that was repaired in 2023. This would have contributed in a small way to the production reduction. The Company is working to identify system leaks in the Morning View system. As the leaks are found they will be repaired. Weather will still be a significant factor in water production. If drought conditions are not experienced, the Company would expect production to continue to trend downward as system water loss is reduced.
