Dear Mary:

In April 1998 the Commission Staff filed a first discovery request to U S WEST Communications, Inc. in Case No. USW-T-98-3. Request No. 41 asked U S WEST to itemize (by exchange) and explain its capital expenditures required for providing EAS in each of several identified exchanges. U S WEST responded to Request No. 41 as follows:

USWC is currently compiling traffic data for the requested routes and will provide the requested information with the completed EAS study.

Apparently, U S WEST did not provide the information as requested in Request No. 41.

U S WEST recently filed a capital cost recovery request with the Public Utilities Commission, Case No. USWT99-9. In order for Staff to evaluate the cost recovery request, it must have the information it asked for in Request No. 41, which U S WEST stated it would provide. Accordingly, please provide the information regarding capital costs requested in Request No. 41. The Commission Staff would appreciate the information as soon as possible.
