RE:NEXUS COMMUNICATIONS,INC.’S APPLICATION TO RELINQUISH
ITS ELIGIBLE TELECOMMUNICAITONS CARRIER DESIGNATION;
CASE NO.NCI-T-11-01.
On March 23,2016,Nexus Communications,Inc.(“Nexus”or “Company”)filed a
Notice of Relinquishment of its eligible telecommunications carrier (ETC)designation.The
Commission granted ETC status to Nexus on April,2,2013.See Order No.32775.
Nexus is a commercial mobile radio service carrier currently providing prepaid wireless
service plans to Lifeline subscribers in Idaho.See ETC Application at 6.Nexus states that it
relinquishes the ETC designation in conjunction with the cessation of service in Idaho.Nexus
reveals that changes in the industry and proposed modifications to the Lifeline program as the
reason for this action,Concurrent with the Notice to the Commission,the Company announces
that it is providing notice to the handful of Nexus wireless subscribers in Idaho.Service will
cease on May 6,2016,and consistent with IDAPA 31.41.01 Rule 212,the customer notice lists
of two wireless service providers that are offering Lifeline benefits.See Sample Customer
Notice.
STAFF REVIEW AND RECOMMENDATION
Staff has reviewed the Application and believes the Company meets the statutory
requirements for relinquishment of the ETC designation.See 47 C.F.R.§54.205(a).Staff also
believes that the Company’s Lifeline subscribers have competitively-priced alternatives with
other wireline and wireless ETC providers in its service area.Thus,Staff recommends
Commission approval.
