Under the overlay option where all new customers are assigned a new area code,it will require that we all dial 10-digit numbers even in within our local community. My next door neighbor could have an area code different than mine.It would seem much simpler to assign the new area code to a geographic area in the state and allow customers to keep their 7-digit numbers while only changing their area code.Everyone could then still dial 7-digit numbers locally. Also,by looking at a 10-digit number I would automatically know which area of the state it is located in. I think that the permanent inconvenience of having a mixture of area codes in local areas is very undesirable. Please consider using the geographic split method to avoid this problem.
