IN THE MATTER OF THE PETITION FROM THE RESIDENTS OF THE SHOUP AREA REQUESTING EXTENDED AREA SERVICEINTO SALMON, IDAHO. ,. ,.., ... /.,,~- , u (UULIe. CASE NO.4:!~~ t-~l~~rH'lIS SIGN RESPONSES OF CENTURYTEL OF IDAHO TO THE FIRST PRODUCTION REQUEST OF THE COMMISSION STAFF Request No.1: The Commission is considering the EAS requested by the approximately 50 residents of Rural Telephone s Shoup exchange (prefix 394) into the CenturyTel exchanges of North Fork and Salmon. Please describe any facility upgrades or new equipment that would be required by CenturyTel to implement this EAS. Itemize the type of equipment/facilities, labor required and the estimated cost. Additionally, please describe and document any other costs or lost revenues that CenturyTel would seek to recover if this EAS were granted. Response: Please refer to the enclosed diskette, which contains an Excel file containing CenturyTel of Idaho s analysis to date of the lost revenues and costs that would be incurred should the proposed EAS routes be implemented. A copy of the information contained therein is also enclosed (see Exhibits 1-3). Please note the following with respect to the analysis: 1) Our engineers are currently doing a study to determine if additional equipment and/or facilities will be required to provide this service. This analysis does not include that additional equipment. 2) We will send a revised analysis after our engineers' study is complete. 3) This analysis assumes 160 hours (80 each in North Fork and Salmon) of labor to prepare our switches to provide EAS service. This number may change as a result of the engineers' study. 4) The net monthly impact of $730 ($0.18 per access line per month for our 4 103 access lines) does not include the cost of leasing a Tl from Rural Telephone Company to provide EAS service to Shoup. To demonstrate the potential impact of this cost, if the Tllease cost was $1 000 per month, it would increase the cost to $1 730 per month ($0.42 per access line per month). Name: Larry D. Does CenturyTel suggest any alternatives to this EAS? Response: As indicated in the response to Request No., CenturyTel has not completed its engineering study to determine whether additional equipment or facilities might be necessary, but expects to have those results available in the very near future. However CenturyTel does not anticipate any significant problems in providing the proposed EAS regardless of the results of the study, other than the potential higher cost involved. CenturyTel does not have an alternative to EAS to suggest at this time. Name: Larry D.
