BEFORE THE IDAHO PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION
IN THE MATTER OF THE PETITION FROM
THE RESIDENTS OF MELBA, IDAHO
REQUESTING EXTENDED AREA SERVICE
INTO MARSING AND HOMED ALE, IDAHO MINUTE ORDER
CASE NO. GNR- T-OO-
This case was opened in 2000 after the Commission received a petition from
approximately 90 residents of Melba, Idaho requesting toll-free extended area service (EAS) into
Marsing and Homedale, Idaho. The Commission issued Order No. 28817 on August 14, 2001
establishing a deadline for intervention and providing notice of the petition. No petitions for
intervention were ever filed and the case has been inactive ever since.
The telecommunications environment has changed significantly since this case was
opened, both in its technology and in the applicable laws. The proliferation of cell phones has
made calling between these communities routine. In addition, the two telecommunications
companies that provide wireline service, Qwest Corporation and Frontier Communications, are
both currently unregulated and are free to determine the terms on which they would provide
service to surrounding communities.
Based upon Staff's recommendation at the May 12, 2008 decision meeting, the
Commission dismisses Case No. GNR-00-
ORDER
IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the EAS petition filed by the residents of Melba
Idaho is dismissed and Case No. GNR-00-4 is closed.
MINUTE ORDER
DONE by Order of the Idaho Public Utilities Commission at Boise, Idaho this L/#--.
day of May 2008.
