After reviewing the testimony of GTE Northwest Incorporated (GTE/Verizon) witnesses Anthony J. Flesch, Gregory D. Jacobson, and U S WEST Communications, Inc. (Qwest) witness Janis Petersen, the Commission Staff waives cross-examination of these witnesses. However, failure to cross-examine does not imply that Staff agrees with or accepts these witnesses testimony.
For example, GTE/Verizon witness Flesch testifies about depreciation and the appropriate depreciation to be used in this case. How GTE/Verizon is authorized to book depreciation is the subject of Case No. GTE-T-00-9 and Staff specifically disputes his testimony in his Direct testimony in this case at page 8, lines 15-19.
Therefore, the Commission Staff respectfully requests the Commission to grant this motion and issue a decision today.
Respectfully submitted this 4th day of August 2000.
