FairPoint Communications Corp dba FairPoint Communications Solutions Corp was
issued Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity No. 374 to provide local
telecommunications services in the U S WEST and GTE serving areas that existed in 2000.
In November 2001, FairPoint advised the Commission that it intended to discontinue all
retail telephone services provided to FairPont's local and long distance end user retail customers
iri the State ofIdaho as of February 1 , 2002. The Company requested that it maintain its
Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity pending further review of market conditions
nationwide and advised that it would notify the Commission when it decided to relinquish or
cancel its certificate.
On June 24 2003 , Staff received an e-mail :trom John J. La Penta, Assistant General
Counsel for FairPoint requesting to withdraw it's Certificate No. 374.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the FairPoint Communications Solutions Corp be permitted to
withdraw its Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity No. 374. Does the Commission
agree?
