Dear Ms. McDermott: I have received the packet of information you forwarded concerning your mother’s billing problems with Westel, a subsidiary of Albion Telephone Company. As your letter points out, customers in those exchanges that U S WEST recently sold to various purchasers (including Westel) have experienced problems with the transition. I have forwarded your complaint to our Consumer Assistance Division for investigation. When I receive the investigation results, I will contact you. It certainly seems inappropriate to bill your mother for the full monthly service charge when the intercept message states that the Mackay number “has been disconnected.” Sincerely, Donald L.
