Please describe your comment briefly:
We received the notice of the 19.9% rate increase proposal with our monthly billing. Most
corporations who increase prices by 2Ø% simply lose out to their competition. In this case,
we can't decide to buy our water from a competitorj we really have no choice but to pay the
increased price. It wouldn't be as significant an issue if incomes were increasing too. But
families and businesses are cutting expenses wherever they can just to get by and the last
thing they need is a hefty increase such as this. And even if the general public could
afford the rate hike, should they have to? Was it okay for United Water to spend $2Ø million
they didn't have? Do they have a blank check to spend whatever they want and bill us later?
What happened to budgeting? I agree with the person who said a higher pricing tier for high
consumption makes more sense than this proposal. It would increase revenue by assessing
additional charges to those who over-use, rather than penalizing all the people who have done
what you asked them to do - conserve. I encourage the IPUC to require United Water to come
up with a better plan.
