It does seem that this is a very large rate increase for just being granted a rate increase in March of iøiø. The per unit of water charge increasedoes not bother me as much as the bi -monthly customer charge. Raising the the bi -monthly customer charge hurts the low income the most and does not encourage conservation. Water conservation is a goal of the state and rates should be used to encourage this. Adding another tier with a higher rate would be a step in the right direction. Thank you. Clearly United Water could identify that water consumption will continue to decrease - that' s no surprise given the green movement and the economy. So United Water should have taken a good hard look at . fixed' expenditures over time and identified ways to eliminate costs just like we all have to. The last increase they were awarded was just one year ago. What happened??? Sounds like irresponsible financial management to me. To propose that I pay more for water when IJ and the rest of Boise i s water-conserving populationJ consume less J is unimaginable and just plain wrong. Can we get another utility to take over? Like Idaho Power J United Water endorses and encourage subscribers to conserve. The conservation by the water users is now the basis of their rate increase request. Had we subcribers over used the water resource they would be seaking a rate increase as well. They can i t have both ways J and we consumers J can ill afford another cost increase in addition to increaes in property taxes being imposed by our fine mayor and city council. I ask that this rate increase be denied. Thank you. I am retired on a fixed income. Like many othersJ I have not only stopped getting annual income increases due to the economic collapseJ my income has steadily decreased. I have had to cut back in every possible areaJ including water usage. I've become adept at minimizing expenses by minimizing my life. To cut water usage I take marine showers instead of bathsJ wear clothes for several daysJ and water my lawn only to maintain a nice shade of brown. And yet J United Water penalizes me further by increasing rates to make up for its reduced income. I propose that United Water cut its own expenses instead of increasing my rates. FurthermoreJ this rate increase follows too closely after the March 2Ø1Ø increase. Do not approve this application to increase ràtes. We had our sprinklers re-adjusted to run for 4Ø mins. every other day. Last year they ran 35 mins. J alternating odd & even days. I CAN i T imagine such a difference in pricing from 2Ø1Ø to 2Øllj same time framefor 2Ø1Ø was around $214 (which I thought was high then!). It is bad enough that our home is located less than 2ØØ yards from the New York Canal and the developer waived water rights (built 1974 - the only home we have ever had. At the time we just assumed the land was irragated - A big mistake on our partJ as we continully pay for that mistake over and over!!) The past two years J three of our neighbors homes have taken out their lawns. We just tore out all of our bushes that have been there for over 34 years! We just CAN' T CONTINUE to pay such high water prices during the summer months!!! I mentioned the water cost to my sister in southern California and she said her bill was about the same as mine. AgainJ I was shocked! Wi th the great state of Idaho being so abundant in waterJ WHY IS OUR WATER BILL SO HIGH & CONTINUALLY INCREASING???? I appreciate the opportuni ty to voice my concerns. I earn $lØ an hour and am trying to hang on to my home of 2Ø years. We i ve had more water in the reservoir for so many years now I can' t remember how long. Your proposal is so ridiculously high words truly cannot describe how it makes me feel. How nice of you to provide such nice clean water to the wealthiest neighborhoods in Boise by building them storage facilities and new water mains - why don't you make all those weal thy people pay for it instead of people like me that can' t afford another increase in another utility bill? Why can i t you be like Intermountain Gas and lower your price instead? God Bless Intermountain Gas. Regarding your 19.9% rate hikeJ or any other hike for that matter - you can take a hike.
