Given the current economic clime, I would suggest that the 5.64% level is more than reasonable and, if anything, United Water Idaho r s rates should be decreased. However, perhaps I missed the federal or state statute guaranteeing a certain profit level (or any profi t at all) for commercial entities. Additionally, their citation of decreased water consumption illustrates a glaring problem when for-profit entities manage natural resources ... there is no impetus (on their part) to conserve those precious resources (unless, of course, they are allowed to raise rates to maintain a level of profit they deem r reasonable' ) . Water is a precious resource and everything possible should be done to conserve it-from converting all toilets to dual-flush to incorporating xeriscape choices in our landscapes - all without worry of the repercussion of increased water-use rates. Uni ted Water Idaho r s request for ANY rate increase should be denied.
