The proposed increase is over 15%. Everyone else is still economically tightening their
bel ts and United Water should be no different. Necessi ty is the mother of invention. The
proffered reason for raising rates is increases in chemicals, and costs of materials. It is
time to go shopping for new suppliers or other ways to cut costs. Has United Water cut
salaries or trimmed staff as other businesses and even government has done? Commercial
building owners as well as residential owners are already stretched thin. Where are they to
get the additional money? We are still in a severe economic downturn, and until there is
unequivocal evidence that things have turned around, no rate increase should be allowed.

In these economic times I am saddened that United Water, or any utility company would
request such an increase even if it is $4.37 per month. I have lost count how many of my
friends and relatives are unemployed and those on a fixed income such as Social Security, who
did not get an increase, and now they are asked to be okay with another rate hike for an
utility they cannot do without.
Please consider those who are struggling before you approve this rate increase. Thank you.
