Please describe your comment briefly: I would like to register my objection to the proposed rate increase of approximately 12% to the residents of Lexington Meadows and other subdivisions should United Waters application to sell water systems be approved by the Public Utilities Commission. I am just about to finish construction of a new home in Lexington Meadows (72 North Arabian Way) and certainly do not see any justification for a 12% rate increase should UW Id. Inc. 'application' be approved by IPUC. What does an 'approval of an application' to sell a water system have anything to do with raising the customer rate by 12%. I see absolutely no connection here. Why is M&M Mountain View subdivision excluded from this rate increase? They are included in 'the affected subdivisions'. Why are they allowed to have 'unmetered water billed at a flat rate by United Water'. Something really stinks in this whole setup. I think you guys need to get back to the drawing board and start watching out for the PUBLIC as your name implies. Although it appears the most cost effective answer to the Uranium problem is to transfer the water service to a different source; the expense of that change should belong to United Water... not their customers. We were lied to by United Water at the beginning of the problem on two separate occasions; and the DEQ has really done nothing to expedite a solution to the problem. Because of the lies and duration of the problem, we have lived with it and purchased bottled water for 3 years. We were told at a United Water/Nampa City Water meeting that there would be no extra costs to make the change. United Water themselves have stated that they only want to sell the system because they can't fix the Uranium problem while maintaining a profit on the system. We think that is their problem, not ours. United Water has proven through this process that they only care about money and does not want to deal with any risks at all. It seems to us that approving the sale of the system from United Water to Nampa and allowing United Water to pocket the $245,ØØØ, while passing on the extra cost (whether it be in the form an incidental rate increase or designed rate increase) is letting United Water pass their risk and losses on to the consumer. It's an easy way out for United Water and Nampa City Water gains customers and revenue. Both businesses (agencies) win under that scenario and we the consumers lose. If the best solution to the Uranium problem is a transfer of the system to Nampa City Water; then please protect us and our children by ordering United Water to use the proceeds from the sale of the system to offset any past, current, and future expenses (such as hook up fees or rate increases). Also, please be sure through legal documentaion and contracts that United Water is held accountable for any health problems (especially like women and children with cancer or dead pets) that their customers have already or might incur . United Water should not be allowed to toy with the health and well being of their customers and then eliminate all their liability by selling the system... especially after the way they have handled this situation the past 3 years. Afterall, United Water is already dumping what is at the very least a tremendous liability in not resolving the Uranium problem by selling the system (with the wells never to be used again for drinking water); so why should they and Nampa City Water be allowed to recognize proceeds with extra expenses being passed on to the consumer? We ask that you please protect our family and the public from United Water's neglegent and careless pursuit of profits.
