I wish to provide a comment in response to the Spirit Lake East Water Company's request for
a rate increase of 106%. I believe that the rate increase requested is extremely high. We
would all like to double our income but it is not feasible. Most of us living in Spirit Lake
East are retired and live here because it is (was) affordable. The following details my
reasoning:
1.I believe the length of combined' experience of the new operators is irrelevant, and does
not justify a rate increase at all.
2.Meeting Idaho Department of Environmental Quality rules, should be considered a minimum
threshold, not justification for higher revenues.
3.There has been NO increase in water pressure at our service address, as suggested. And, in
fact, our water pressure is VERY low on a regular basis.
4.Any repairs to correct main line leaks should again be considered a minimum threshold, not
justification for a rate increase.
5.I have no problem with them billing monthly, HOWEVER, this will increase their costs which
is part of their reason for wanting an increase. Between the USPS to mail payments monthly,
manpower to read the meters and process the billings as well as the payments will only
increase their costs.
Lastly. I DO support a more modest increase to our rate structure; perhaps one to two
dollars per month ($1 to $2 increase, or up to a monthly service rate of $14.50).
