Spiri t Lake East Water Co. owned by Hansen Industries has made a fortune developing Spirit
Lake East & Treeport subdivisions. During the development of the system and the thirty
years since they have cut corners and put in the bare minimum of maintanence to keep the
system operating legally (barely). Sixty percent of all water pumped leaks out into the
ground before it passes through any service meter. These leaks combined with constant low
and negative pressure episodes, and all the septic tanks in the area produce dangerous
backflow conditions. This combined with the water corporations lack of a cross connection
control plan make the system very dangerous to the health of the 280 families served byit!
Please do not give any increase in water rates to Spirit Lake East Water Corp. until such
time as the system is repaired and brought up to modern standards.
