Much of the water created by the system is used by the resort's own facilities, from which the individual condominium owners gain no benefit. The system has been in use for approximately 20 years. The current rates have been developed over that time period to make the sustem pay for itself. We believe the Idaho PUC has the responsibility to take a close look at this, as there is no credible evidence that the system has been improved sufficiently to justify an 88 percent increase in the water rates. I am opposed to this request. A maj ori ty of the properties served by this water system are used as vacation rentals. I sure it is presumed that this increase in cost will simply be passed on to the renters. However , given this late of date our rental rates have been determined and reservations for the 2004-05 seasons have been accepted. We have no way to pass on to our clients these costs at this late of date. In addition, an increase of 88% appears to be overly aggressive. A more moderate increase seems to be a more reasonable approach Transaction ID: 10291744. Referred by: http: / /www.puc. state. id. us / scripts/polyform. dll/ ipuc User Address: 216.18.138. Box 83720 Boise, ill 83720..0074 To Whom It May Concern: My name is Lew Boles. I'm a condominium apartment owner at Schweitzer Mountain Resort near Sandpoint, Idaho. I'm writing this letter to formally complain about Mountain Utility Company proposed water rate increase. The current rate for each residential equivalent unit is $33.00 per month. Mountain Utility Company is requesting that the rate be increased to $61.96 per month. This represents an 88% increase over current rates. The ski season runs, on the average, from about Thanksgiving Day through the first week of April. That's about four months in a good snow year. Most condominium apartment owners probably don spend more than 80 days during that period in their condominium apartments. They use Mountain Utility CoOmpany water only during those 80 days. The proposed rate increase seems terribly excessive when considering the amount of time owners spend living in their respective apartments at Schweitzer Mountain Resort. As one of those owners, I respectfully ask the IPUC to reject Mountain Utility Company s proposed rate increase. Sincerely yours Lew Boles
